About How to Get Good Sleep

How to Get Good Sleep is a free library of practical sleep guides. We write for people who are tired of being tired, and tired of sleep advice that is either a 40-point checklist or a miracle product.

Who we are

This site is published by Good Sleep, the company that makes the Good Sleep cooling and heating mattress topper. We want to be completely upfront about that: we are affiliated with Good Sleep, we sell a sleep product, and we mention it on this site. When we do, we say so.

How we write

  • Habits first. Most of what helps sleep is free: a steady wake time, morning light, a cool dark room and a calm wind-down. Those come before any product.
  • No made-up numbers. We only use figures that come from established public health sources, and we say when evidence is limited or mixed.
  • Plain English. Our guides are written to be useful at 11 p.m. on a phone.
  • Know the limits. Habits can’t treat sleep apnea, chronic insomnia or other sleep disorders. We tell you when to see a doctor.

Not medical advice

Our content is for general information only. It is not a substitute for advice from a doctor or other qualified health professional. If you have ongoing trouble sleeping, loud snoring, pauses in breathing or severe daytime sleepiness, please speak with a doctor.
